In Battlefield Redsec, matches can be decided before anyone even pulls the trigger: whoever hits the ground first gets first pick of weapons, armor and crucial loot. The free-to-play battle royale launching alongside Battlefield 6 drops up to 100 players into the huge Fort Lyndon map on PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Anyone who has played a battle royale before knows how much those first seconds matter – and in Redsec there’s a simple trick that can give you a serious early advantage.

Unlike most battle royale games where the entire lobby jumps out of a single plane, here multiple Chinook helicopters circle above the map, each following its own flight path. That means squads don’t share the same drop line, so where you place your marker is even more important than it first appears. If you pick your landing zone smartly, you can touch down a few seconds earlier than your opponents – and that’s often all it takes to greet them with an assault rifle instead of a basic sidearm.

The key is to avoid trying to “sail” diagonally across half the map. Before you jump, take a moment to study your helicopter’s full route and pick a destination that lies directly on, or very close to, that line. This way, you’ll be diving almost straight down with minimal sideways movement, meaning you’ll hit the ground much faster than players who are gliding off toward faraway districts at a steep angle.

It’s also worth thinking about what kind of location you choose along this path. If your squad is still getting used to the game, it’s often smarter to aim for a medium-loot area that’s a bit off the beaten path, where you’re not dropping into the same courtyard as three other teams. If you’re confident, you can go for hot spots packed with loot crates, multi-storey buildings or industrial complexes – in those places your faster arrival translates into an even bigger advantage.

Map knowledge will boost your landing efficiency over time as well. Official guides and beginner tips emphasize how important it is to learn the main points of interest, likely loot crate spawns and vehicle locations. If you know where to find vehicles, high ground or strong rotation routes along your helicopter’s path, a well-planned drop won’t just get you to the ground faster – it will also set you up for smarter movement in the early circles.

Of course, Redsec is about more than just landing: class selection, Recon drone usage, securing custom loadouts and taking advantage of the redeploy system all offer big tactical depth. But players who build an advantage in the very first seconds of a match will have a much easier time in the mid and late game. If you’ve been jumping on instinct so far, it’s worth trying a more deliberate approach – you might be surprised how often you’re fully geared up while your opponents are still tumbling into the courtyard.
